Default Vegas Mar 10-12 NASCAR WKD

I am planning to head to Vegas Mar 10-16ish on spring break from school (UIowa). Bringing a pack of people with, but we haven't secured rooms yet.

1) Any 2+2ers interested in meeting up somewhere or going to the race on Sunday? We will be organizing a large tailgate, and you all are invited to come.
2) Anyone know what Vegas is like on this weekend from prior years? I would assume it will be extra busy this weekend. What's the best strategy for getting rooms and choosing rooms on especially busy weekends? OR Should I just check out allvegaspoker.com and assume a typical weekend?
3) Does the competition change at all on weekends like this, and at what level is it noticibale, if at all?

Not sure if I have any business posting this here, but this weekend looks to have some good potential for personal enjoyment and fishies flying in (or driving in with their RVs with preferred drivers flag flying) from all over for the race.

I was there last year on this weekend.

Yeah, it was busy. You'd see NASCAR jackets at the tables. I didn't have any trouble getting a room, although I had one reserved a few months in advance.

Get someone in your group to pick and over/under on the number of NASCAR jackets or shirts you'll see on your plane before you get to the airport. Take the over.

I love it! I'm not really into NASCAR, but I am excited to see all the junkies down there. I have actually had thoughts of going to the race if anyone else would go. My friends and I are going to go to the raceway on sunday regardless of if we have race tickets. We will have to make sure we bring a few coolers full of Busch light (mmm..my favorite!) jk. I'll have to see if I can pick up a Tony Stewart shirt so I can fit in!

I have never been to a nascar race, but I have some in laws who go. They tell me it sometimes takes hours to leave the track on sunday. Not my thing. I'd think twice about just going to the track to see what is going on.

Yes, it will be extra busy. And you will have to pay out the nose for a hotel room. Make your airline and hotel reservation early or you may have some trouble getting anything at all. Checking this very minute, for instance, The Orleans is sold out March 10 and 11 as is Circus Circus (just the first two that popped into my head in the inexpensive price range).

And yes, major events like this (most recent was the rodeo) bring in flocks of tourists who will happily lose their money to you.

Got the NASCAR tickets, the hotel and the plane tickets. The hotel and airfare were not a big deal. NASCAR tickets, on the other hand, must constitute 80% of the average NASCAR fan's annual entertainment budget. Holy crap are they expensive.

Mirage gave me their usual excellent rates because my wife is a blackjack monster and I ride on her comps. I don't bother asking for poker rates with her along.

My brother-in-law and I have never been to a NASCAR event, so we look at this as a major-league cultural experience. He likens it to going to Grateful Dead concert for the first time (when they weren't dead of course). We plan on keeping a journal, with photos of course. What we're looking for will include:

- biggest ta-ta's
- biggest ta-ta's, best t-shirt
- most missing teeth
- biggest hair
- best mullet
- ugliest NASCAR souvenir
- best-looking Jeff Gordon fan (female)
- dorkiest hat
- most beer consumed prior to the start of the race (will go with...)
- fattest gut
- worst driving/most deliberate collission activity (may be preclaimed by Tony Stewart, but we'll see)

It should interesting. The two wives will be staying well clear of the track. Too bad. It could be expensive leaving them in a casino for 12 hours.

Five days...four days of poker and one for social anthropology.
