Default Nano-limit Stars: Take the free card?

PokerStars 0.10/0.20 Hold'em (10 handed) internettexasholdem.com

This is my first orbit at this table so no reads worth mentioning.

Preflop: Hero is Button with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. CO posts a blind of $0.10.
4 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO (poster) calls, Hero calls, SB completes $0.05 (All-In), BB checks.

Flop: (7 SB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 players, 1 all-in)
BB checks, MP2 checks, MP3 bets, CO calls, Hero raises, BB calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls.

I raised so I could take a free card should I need one.

Turn: (8.50 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (6 players, 1 all-in)
BB checks, MP2 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks, Hero??

There are still two over cards and with the 8 hitting, if a Jack or a 6 hits on the river you are going to split with anyone holding a 7. I don't think you are going to get anyone to fold by betting here. I would check and see what the river brings.

Yes, take the free card. You already paid for it on the flop. Plus, My experice on ps nanos mean that you can steal the pot if you don't make the straight on the river. Make them pay you off.

Hero took the free card and on the river (a blank fell) the action was checked around. I checked the showdown and my 8's took the pot.

I was just wondering if I should have bet the turn to protect my hand should it have been best. I would not believe my 8's would be good vs all the players in the hand. I think, knowing the results, that the free card was best.

You need one. 8 doesn't make your straight...it made you 3rd pair.

In this instance, it's almost inconceivable to me that your 8s would be best at this point, so most times you'd be protecting a second-place finish (but then it IS the nano-limits).

Any bet you make here would have to be for value. Since you have 7 clean outs (the 6 straight cards and one 8 that don't put the flush out there) you don't have enough pot equity for a value bet. Top pair with a good-to-top kicker would be worth a protective bet, though you'd be called by any real draw.

are people that arent mentioning it seriously advocating raising that flop?

your draw sucks, your on the sucker end of a straight draw without a heart, opening you up to all kind of redraws. eg if a J straightens you any Q scores an OESD, if a 6h comes any heart scores a fd.

knocking people out sucks because you have very little chance to win if you pair your 8 or 7

you open yourself up to a 3bet from the flop bettor

your in terrible relative position to equity pump, forcing 2 out of 5 players to coldcall 2... not that you likely even have the equity to pump in the first place.
