Tilt is intended to a be a somewhat realistic portrayal of high-stakes poker.

I disagree. Tilt is like playmakers. It's a pure entertainment show that goes way over the top for entertainment purposes, it's not supposed to be at all realistic.

Rocky and Color of Money were both good.

Tilt is not....partly because there isn't even a whiff of plausibility about the dialogue and story-lines, etc.

Rocky and Color of Money might not be terribly accurate in certain aspects...but it is presented plausibly, the dialogue is terrific as is the acting.

If you think that Tilt is on a par with Rocky or Color of Money in any respect I feel sorry for you.

It was soooo unrealistic showing somebody losing his stack with KXs flush to a AXs flush. That never happens.

Same with some internet pro getting chewed up because he has a live game tell. That never happens.

I'll grant you that Nichols turning down all the chick props was totally bogus. As was his wife bringing him money in the last episode.

If you watched Law and Order and then in the middle of an opening-statement Sam Waterston decided to put panty-hose on his head and leap around the room singing "I'm a little tea-cup" then I don't think the excuse "hey, it's a TV show.

[/ QUOTE ]
they made this show once, it was called " Cop Rock."
It didn't last too long.

the purpose of having 3 seperate monitors in this scene is so that the 98% of the audience that doesn't read 2+2 or play online can see that online you can play multiple games...

That scene with a 2001FP and 4 tables would have been visually boring and would have lost the audience.

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree (except for the fact that I believe that more than 2% of the audience for that show plays poker online). Movies and tv shows are usually not supposed to be realistic in a literal way. They sometimes need to use convenient visual metaphors that would not make sense in real life. It's similar to the oreo cookie in Rounders. Obviously, in real life KGB would not have a tell that is so simple and consistent and obvious. But there is no good way to quickly present real tells to an audience not familiar with poker, so the cookie is an easy stand-in. It's a movie or a tv show. It's not meant to be exactly like real life. If it were, I could just look out my window instead of watching.

There has never been a show in the history of television that is so realistic that it is like looking out your window.

Yet that doesn't mean that some shows are good and others are just plain awful.

I don't know why everyone hates Tilt. I love that show. I learned to play poker by watching it. Tilt has made me thousands of dollars.
