Default what\'s the reasoning behind this?

why can't you keep a rack on the table at a casino?
aesthetics? does it get in the way? does it convey false impressions that you'll leave soon?

1. You probably will leave sooner
2. You can hise [censored] underneath it.
3. It slows the game down when people play out of their rack.

Primary reason is that it slows down the game. Often card rooms will allow you to keep a rack (or racks) on the table as long as you keep a working stack out of the rack.

In the Tucson casinos, anything larger than a playing card cannot be on the table. The players enforce the rule pretty well because it would invalidate a jackpot.

Floormen here use both reasons.
Racks used to be permitted as long as you kept a working stack out, to keep the game moving faster.
Racks are no longer permitted, because as the poker room grew, newer players weren't doing a good job keeping it fast. Additionally, the reason has been added that a person could be hiding something under a rack (which I guess they couldn't be hiding in or behind chips).

I have found it quite interesting that some floormen are quite lenient regarding cell phones or keys on the table, but maybe it follows the idea suggested that they are not larger than a playing card.

This is not the rule at all casinos. Some allow you to keep racks on the table. And the ones that do often have a rule that you have to keep a certain amount of chips out of the rack to keep the game moving.
