Book of the Year Nominations

Hey guys. With the end of the year here, I thought it would be cool to run a poll and nominate a "book of the year" from us, 2+2 readers. I suggest that we have only two categories, strategy and novel. Let's use this thread to nominate qualified books and I will open the poll on Wednesday, December 21st. This is not limited to 2+2 books.

I'll start.

Novel: The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King by Michael Craig.

Strategy: Harrington on Hold 'Em Volume II by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie.

Shall we simply call it non-strategy? Or non-fiction? I'm assuming there is a better word that I can't think of right now.

You may want to define the year to determine which books are eligible. Two reasonable ways would be to go by the copyright year or the date of release as listed at Amazon.com. I would expect these two sets to have a lot of common members, but to not be equivalent.

Gordon, "Phil Gordon's Little Green Book"
Yao, "Weighing the Odds in Hold'em Poker"

I like the idea to go by release date, as listed by Amazon.com.

In fact, I'll run the poll now with ALL the mainstream (popular)books in it but with an option to choose "other" to type in a separate vote. The poll will run through the end of the year.

Best Limit Hold'em - Advanced: "How Good is your Limit Hold'em" - Byron Jacobs (King Yao's book was excellent, but HGIYLHE was groundbreaking)

Best Limit Hold'em - Beginner: "Getting Started in Hold'em" - Ed Miller

Best No Limit Hold'em - Beginner: "Little Green Book" - Phil Gordon

Best No Limit Hold'em - Advanced: "Harrington on Hold'em" - Harrington & Robertie

Best "other games": "Super System II" (many weak points, you must sift through the bad to get to the good) - Doyle Brunson & Team (the teams work is better than Doyle's by far)

Best "new concept or game": "Super System II"'s triple draw section - Daniel Negranu

Best Psychology: "Ace on the River" - Barry Greenstein

Biggest Disappointment: "Super System II" - winner of the triple crown!

Most anticipated book: "The Theory of No Limit Hold'em" - David Sklansky & Ed Miller (not the real name of their pending title, but it probably should be!)

Best Publisher: 2+2 - Mason Malmoth (the crowned ruler)

Best Improved Business Model: Card Player (I hate the content in Card Player, but their business model does impress me)

Poll is bias towards HE books. The greatest o/8 book ever could have come out this year but since it's a less popular game it wouldn't get nearly as many votes as a "mediocre in comparison" HE title that could have been the best HE book of the year.

I buy/read nearly everything that is released and is worth reading, regardless of the game. Unfortunately the only non-HE book released that was good was SS II (which won the hat trick), yet it was still incredibly flawed. The Stud section was pretty decent, as was the two Omaha sections (again not perfect, but the pot limit section might be the best material released to date). Of course the Triple Draw section (specifically 2-7) was very good and filled with new concepts (OK, semi-new concepts... its all rehashed Malmuth Draw and Sklansky TOP principals) but it was poorly written (as was the rest of the book) and Daniel doesn't take the size of the pot into consideration (not surprising based on comments I have read by him).
