Ok ok, first let me explain the table...
Button is a maniac, new to tournaments, new to poker it seemed. The whole table knew it... his KQ sucked out on AA to get him a lot of chips, and he open pushed a lot of hands... ended up getting cripled w/ A5s vs KK, and then 66 by A7. Anyway, when i bet i was hoping that he would go all in there because i knew he was crazy.... but since the whole table knew that, when BB tried to isolate, i really didn't think he was all that strong... so well i called.

I havn't done the pokerstove on this yet, but what do you guys think? Is that quote that i got from someone else accurate?

Based on what was going on & your read, plus the fact u have both covered, it wasn't the worst call. It does beg the question though, were u already in the $? Based on BB I would think so. I don't know if I would have made the call. It would have depended greatly on where I was in relationship to the $ & FT.
BTW, I've seen a LOT WORSE calls.

I see no problem with your reasoning, although yeah, you end up looking foolish because he had a real hand this one time. From your description, he was probably more likely to have an A you dominate than AK or AQ, which really ends the discussion.

BB's play is bad. Expecting an utg raiser to fold when you push into him with the chips this shallow is wishful thinking. Most scenarios he's going to get called and be dominated or racing against 3 or 4 overcards. It's a pretty trivial fold.

You were right about your read on the BB. You were just unlucky that the button had a real hand.

You said he had been open pushing alot...had he been reraising alot? It makes a big difference. There are some crazies who will do anything when they are first to open, but reraising is a different beast alltogether.

My first reaction was that the call with 55 was awful, but when I saw that BB is so short-stacked that he has to put up 20% of his chips to post the blind, I wasn't so sure. If he had a guarantee he was up against 4 overcards, for example, it's a trivially easy call. My guess is that if you ran all the possibilities, including the possibility that the original raiser will fold, it would turn out to be a correct desperation move, although I wouldn't stake my life on it.

button had 6bb's

i had like 13bb's.

I raised UTG, button pushed, BB pushed to isolate.

Button isn't the guy i'm worried about here... i have to call him no matter what, it's the BB..

Since he knew button was a maniac i decided his range to iry and isolate here was really wide.

With the BB having a healthy stack, the push with 55 seems very bad to me. Even if you're supposed to lay AJ down here, the fact is that AJ is about the worst he could expect a UTG raiser to have.
