Re: Ressurecting: Best War Movie Ever!
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] This is pretty good. Add Scott's speech from Patton at the very beginning and throw in the last ten minutes of the Deer Hunter at the very end. Swede [/ QUOTE ] Let's cast this thing. R. Lee Ermey and Lou Gossett Jr. would play the D.I.'s. John Wayne would play the General character who gives the Patton-esque speech. Lee Marvin would play the gruff, no-nonsense sergeant. Sean Penn would play the stoner vet ending his tour of duty. Steve McQueen would play the smart-assed con artist, always looking to make a cheap buck off of the war. And Audie Murphy would play the fresh faced kid from Kentucky who enlists with good intentions, but then recognizes the horrors of war and then dies. [/ QUOTE ] The fresh-faced kid always dies. |

And Robert Duvall playing the aptly named Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore.

Re: Ressurrecting: Best War Movie Ever!
Not on list:
"Battleground". Spielberg mentions it as highly influential, and it is a pretty good lesser known movie. Haven't seen it, but does "A Very Long Engagement" qualify? "Master & Commander". It's better than some of the movies on the list. "Napoleon". 1927 silent version. Merely one of the great movies of all time. |

Re: Ressurrecting: Best War Movie Ever!
I personally wouldn't count A Very Long Engagement. While it deals with war, the main storyline is a Woman looking for her fiance who may or may not have died.

Or crippled, ala The Deer Hunter, Born on the Fourth of July, Johnny Get Your Gun, Coming Home, etc.

Good suggestions! I'll add Battleground, Master & Commander and Napoleon to the list.

Here are the movies mentioned in the previous thread. I've eliminated epics that are more drama than war, as well as goofy stuff that shouldn't be considered. Is this list missing anything? Re: Ressurrecting: Best War Movie Ever!
I keep thinking of movies that really tie in the war to the civilian populace, like Beyond Rangoon, Hotel Rawanda, When Heavne and Earth Changed Places, ect ect. I realize that may not fit but I find it just as compelling.
