Default Calling a girl \"man\"

Is referring to a girl as "man" as in "talk to you later, man" ever correct? Are girls offended by this term?
Does it make a difference if your friendly w/ the girl and have been friends for a while?
Thoughts?

This is wrong. Also, a lot of girls get upset just when you refer to a group of people as guys, as in "Hey, guys. What's up?" I think the prefered terminology is non-gender-specific entity, as in "Hey non-gender-specific entities. What's up?"

Girls will get upset about anything, just to keep you on your toes.

Funny thing is, lots of girls in L.A. call each other "dude." From the teens up through the 40's, especially the Latinas I think. After hearing it for years and years, it still hasn't lost its weirdness.

meh. I could care less.
Lucas always says "later dude" when he refers to me. I do not think it's a big deal at all.

Yeah, but come on. This is Lucas. He can do whatever he wants because you know if you smart off, you're getting flipped off extra hard and nobody wants any of that. What's the story on him lately, anyway? Has he just given up on us, or what?

I would refer to them as "sweetie" or "honey" but that may be offensive as well. You can never win w/ girls. I should just become a pimp and refer to all of them as bitches and hos. just kidding ladies
