First post: Strategy question
Okay, i'm relatively new to hold'em and play primarily limit hold'em online. Once every month or so I play in a home tournament with some friends. Yesterday i found myself in a situation that i had me thinking pretty hard. Just looking to see what everyone thinks.
Down to final 6, top 4 pay. Blinds are 150-300. SB is slight chip leader (~T20000), BB is close 2nd (~T19000). UTG is short stacked and pushes ~T2200. UTG+1 is also short stacked and pushes ~T2200. I'm next, in 3rd, with ~T9000. I look down and see QQ. Button behind me has ~T3500. What's the play? I'm thinking i can either push to knock out the players behind me and give myself a chance to eliminate 2 players and get in the money, or fold, as one of the short stacks will be eliminated and i dont give the other short stack a chance to triple up. If i triple up a short stack im at T6800 and he's at T6600. If i get out here im still at T9000 and he's still short at T4400 |

Re: First post: Strategy question
definitely got to push here. utg and utg+1 are both around 7 bb's, so they'll be pushing with marginal hands (especially utg). you could be in a situation as great as playing against 66 and AT:
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV 6c 6d 268542 19.59 1099497 80.21 2715 0.20 0.197 Ts Ac 320109 23.35 1047930 76.45 2715 0.20 0.234 Qs Qh 779388 56.86 588651 42.94 2715 0.20 0.569 (from two dimes) this is a great chance to pick up a lot of chips. you shouldn't worry too much about your chip stack relative to the other short stacks (and you forgot to mention that the button w/ 3.5k will still be short) - the real money in tournaments comes from winning them. if you win this hand, you'll have ~14k and will have a chance to win. |
