Default This has been bothering me

Payout top ten get a prize worth $10,000.
11-30 get a prize worth $5000

To me the secondary prize is almost as valuable is the first prize.

40 people left. my stack is about 40,000. I am about 12th. ave is around 25,000. I could most likely fold my way into a secondary prize.

blinds 1200/2400 antes 25
MP who is the chip leader with 80,000 raises to 7200.(no read as he has just been transfered in)

All fold to me in the BB AKs. I Call
pot around 15,000

FLOP is A95 rainbow. 1 of my suit.
I bet 7000. he folds.

was this awful considering the circumstances?

under a normal prize structure how should this have been played?

Why not just push the flop? Since second place is so valuable to you, and calling preflop still leaves you with an above average stack if you check-fold the flop, then it makes your decision simple.

A better question would be this... if the flop had come down AJT with 2 of a suit (not yours), how would you have played it?

and this seems alright.. in a normal tournament i'd push PF. Actually i'd probably do it here too.

1-10 recieves a trip to the Carribean Poker Classic in ST Kitts. and a buy in to the main event .

11-30 gets the trip and $1400 worth of tourney vouchers for the smaller tournaments.

As it was I finshed 12th but I am just happy to escape the drizzle and cold and lie on the beach and oggle Jennifer Tilly.

Would that be standard?

I am on crash course for tournament play as I am usually a 6max limit holdem player.

i thought this was gonna be a bad beat story. preflop, maybe wouldve reraised, but i understand your reservations. on the flop i wouldve led out, like you did. chip leaders arent to be dealt with lightly.

i think i'd be kinda standard.. you have a good hand that you should reraise w/.. i guess you could raise to like 16k and then push the rest in on the flop. You might get some hands you dominate to put more money in that way.
