Seriously, this is your best bet. Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever by Ray Kurzweil.

I haven't read it yet, but I've read a bunch of other stuff by Kurzweil (Age of Spiritual Machines). This is not fuddy duddy stuff. His theories are incredibly informed and completly based on rational thinking.
