Default Ring game VS MTT

I am sure this has been covered many times before but humour me for a moment. I have played about 300,000 hands of 6 max and I am starting to get a little burned out. The ring games are very profitable but rake back and bonuses are a big help which are not available for tourney's. What about making semi consistent money playing MTT? Is the variance too big? Is your edge big enough?
I realize the loss of profit intially would be unpleasant but assume you had as much competence at both games are they close in earnings?

there are several players who make a living playing MTT's and online MTT's in particular. -

I think the variance could be reduced by sticking to tourneys with smaller fields - that's possible now - several sites run tourneys with limited fields - start there and see how it works.

I'm burned out on ring games too.

I rarely play 3/6. I will only do that when the 5/10 games are awful and I am clearing a non party bonus. I guess it would be fair to ask why I havent moved above 5/10? Risk avoidance. I do play some 10/20 at times and have a +BB/100 but it makes me to growly when I lose 80BB in a session.
That is sort of why I have a little interest in MTT's. It is like playing the pick 6 at the track. A chance for a score without risking anything but your time. Meantime your time is important so that has to factored in too. Just need something a little different to shoot for.
