Re: Anyone check the FIFA rankings lately?
[ QUOTE ]
look, its a pretty well known fact that the FIFA rankings are kinda flawed. Yes it is cool that we are ranked as high as we are, but any football fan knows that a full strength USA side wouldn't normally beat a full strength england, france, or portugal side. France's low ranking is becasue they are having a very bad world cup qualifying run, and are in danger of not even making it to the world cup playoff places for UEFA. The USA is a solid team and does deserve to be in the top 15 places in the world rankings, but I do think that 6 is way too high [/ QUOTE ] So France is ranked low because they suck, but the rankings are flawed? Given that they seem to make sense to me. |

Soccer's more or less been THE kids sport in the US for like 50 years now, though.

[/ QUOTE ]sure, but things changed about 15 years ago when people thought it would be a good idea to put all the really good kids from one area on one team and send them all over the state to play other likewise teams. Soccer changed from simply just being good exercise, to intense competition. |

Given that they seem to make sense to me. [/ QUOTE ] the FIFA rankings are flawed becasue they go by full internationals. Well any country that is in europe will be negativly effected becasue generally they only play competetive matches, either qualification for the world cup or qualification for the european championships, and of course the world cup and euro championships proper. whereas a country like the USA generall only has to worry about lining up friendlies around their much lesser competetive match schedule. The MLS season also opens up more friendlies for the USA to play since the MLS caters to the USSF whereas in a country like england, the FA caters to the premiership. REally though, the only world ranking that means anything is who wins the world cup every four years |

Re: Anyone check the FIFA rankings lately?
I agree that the US will do well at Germany2006, but they will do best at SouthAfrica 2010. BY 2010 project 40 and other youth schemes that were put into place in the period from 94-97 will have come to fruition. It should also be at that time that the USSF then start to concentrate their efforts on reorganizing the entire professional league structure of soccer in the US and work on making the MLS one of the better leagues in the world. The MLS will need relegation/promotion if it is to get better so that it becomes a much more competetive league top to bottom, but they will need to make sure that a team taht gets relegated from the MLS doesn't fall off the map if it does suffer the drop. If that is put into place by 2014 and if the planning for it starts after the next world cup, you will then see the USA become a true Soccer/football power in the world

Re: Anyone check the FIFA rankings lately?
basically the more matches you play in a year the more you get rewarded for your wins. FIFA doesn't really distinguish the differences between a friendly or a competetive(by that I mean a qualification match, or a wc/region championship match), so the FIFA rankings will always hurt the european nations

[ QUOTE ] The real question is how are Mexico and the US ahead of France, England, Spain, and Portugal. Seriously, are we (or Mexico) a favorite against any of those teams at a neutral site? Can't see it. [/ QUOTE ] France, England, and Spain are all in serious danger of missing the World Cup. The US is not. [/ QUOTE ] England will qualify for the World Cup almost certainly. |
