i knew you werent saying that just wanted to open that up for discussion, kind of curious if you thought any one player was a heavier favorite than another based on the format of the game.
i thought this format actually favored Gus if he was able to get a win early.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think Gus and Leaderer probably liked the format the best.
I imagine all of them believe that they can shift their play to fit any type of format, but Gus and Leaderer's normal styles probably fit the best with this type of tournament.

But that's just my opinion. I am by no means an expert.

That was precisely the thought I had when I read the above post. Same exact wording. Wow, what a douchebag.

Varkoni isn't given the same attention because you can't figure out how to spell his name. No one can. Moneymaker on the other hand is very easy to spell and is just too great of a pun for the newspapers and other media outlets to let slip by.

I bet the online satelite part of it played a role too.

I think poker would have gotten as big as it is now, but it may have taken an extra year if not for Moneymaker's win.

I consider myself a SportsCenter junkie, and I don't remember watching any coverage with Varkoyni.

It's Moneymaker's victory for the obvious reasons:
1) He's an American named Moneymaker
2) The hole card cams introduced on ESPN. They give the added feeling of "armchair quarterback" to the viewer.
3) That huge bluff he pulled on Farha.

Default Re: PPM self proclaimed \"the greatest event in the history of Poker\"

They don't compare in anyway, Woods was already a 2or 3 time U.S.amateur champion and had played in several pro tournaments. He was a known quantity and there was no doubt he was gonna be great,on the other hand nobody had ever heard of Chris Moneymaker and in fact he had no prior accomplishments in the poker world .

As for Tiger Woods launching Golf?? what planet are you from? golf was already a multi billion dollar industry supported by god knows how many people who play it on a daily basis. Have you ever heard of Arnold Palmer,Jack Nicklaus etc.? maybe he launched it for you but not millions of other fans around the world. my 2 cents.

heavily bodied
