Default AQo with the King

You have AQo from MP and open raise. An average, thinking player at 10/20 calls you from the button.

Flop is A22r.

You bet, button calls.

River is a 4.

You check...

Good plan?

Why better? PPs won't bet the river. On the other hand, they probably won't call down after we c/r. I think they are more likely to the latter though. We extract the same from As.

If he's at all aggresive, I like this better too.

I was reading ToP last night and it had a line about "people don't try to check/raise the river nearly enough". This is somewhat at odds with making sure to value bet, but at higher levels you can induce so many weaker hands to bet the river that I'm trying to go for the river check/raise more.

Mainly because it doesn't look so suspicious. If he's a thinking player he should often check Ax or PP's on that turn because when you check it generally means you are either checkraising or drawing to 0-2 outs. On the river, however, he'll always bet the Ax and should be at least as willing to bet PP's as he would be on the turn.

Ya'll are too fancy. I bet both the turn and the river against average, thinking players.

Edit: although check raising occasionally is awesome for metagame.

Am I hallucinating again or is the turn action missing?

Yea I think that's way better for the reasons dane described. Against looser players I think bet/bet/bet is better because lower pocket pairs will call twice but usually not bet. A low ace might even check sometimes fearing the checkraise.
