Default My friends uni doesnt allow computer gaming

Well like the title states my friend isn't allowed to access any games the ports are closed or something. Anyways for all you techies out there is there a easy way to make it so he can open the ports somehow and log on to like WoW and Warcraft 3? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

edit. The uni supplies the internet but they say its only for educational purposes or some crap which is stupid since he cant get internet otherwise...

I dont think theres anyway legally he can make the uni do it. He could go out and buy his own internet access, or get wireless internet.

if he has a laptop he could go to a local cafe which usually have free internet access

Well I understand there isn't a legal way there stiff for some reason which is weak because we all game during his free time. Anyways theres something about setting up proxies or something? Were both semi computer literate but I figured there'd be some comp genius to help us out!

Im sure they are blocking the ports from the uni's main networking station, unless you want to break the law there isnt much you can do. Plus once they realize what you have done all they need to do is do some packet sniffing and find out which computer was receiving network traffic similiar to games. and you're busted.

Tunneling through an SSH connection to a remote machine would be your best bet, but not computer newbie friendly and it would add a great deal of latency to most online games, would work fine for poker though.

I use SSH tunnels for all my connections to home from work including proxying etc, works great.

Google for more info and instructions if you want to attempt it.
