Re: what is a blocking bet?
you hold 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] you bet, are raised and call. turn: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] you check and call a bet. river:7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] you might lead for 1/2 pot or so, and fold to a raise. he will sometimes call with a good ace or AJ, but if he raises, you are almost always beat and can fold easily. if you were to check, it will often cost you more to see a showdown if he bets the full pot. prob. not the best example, but you get the point. |

Re: what is a blocking bet?
It's a defensive bet, to prevent your opponents from bluffing with a big bet you can't call. |

Re: what is a blocking bet?
or to make it easier to determine if they are actually bluffing
blocking and never calling is exploitable |

Re: what is a blocking bet?
more a value bet which cannot rationally be raised by anything other than the nuts or air
the probability of nuts or near nuts should be close to 0 to make it a true block |
