Default Soft Tourney Poker with Small Blinds

I'm not going to give exact details about where and such, but I found an awesome tourney ring recently. Most players are LAG and I've seen a lot of calling stations. I do have one question regarding how to play blind structures. The guys play with very weak blinds, meaning we start with 50BB and it rarely increases. They double them every half hour, but since most of them are going nuts over the reraising and such, they knock each other out quick. When blinds are so small are you supposed to play more hands to see if you can hit? Or are you supposed to sit tight and let the action happen, get reads, maintain your stack and make your move when more of the field is out or when you have solid cards to play with? If these choices are stupid, any recommendations on how to play?
