I haven't seen "Fargo," but I've certainly heard enough about it. In rural areas of Minnesota, there are people who have that kind of an accent. It is distinctly upper midwest, but yeah, it's Scandinavian in origin.

I spent a few years in Boston, and I have that accent down pat, but I can't do the Minnesoohta thing, despite years of trying.

Speaking of "Fargo," I guess there's a character who is trying to get his artwork on the duck stamp and says, "damned Hautmans win every year." At least two Hautmans play at Canterbury. Jim, who I think is the most famous of the artists (I think there are three), used to play in the $30/60 stud/8 game when that went more regularly in 2002. I've also played $4/8 HE with Pete, who is a writer.

See guys, poker content.

Ditto.

Only one casino here in Sydney and although they advertise on the board '5 & 7 Stud - half pot" everybody wants to play Hold'em or Omaha. (or Manila)

How should your opponent have played the river?

That's an interesting question. I do think he should have slowed down a little sooner. When I call fourth street, that has to look at least a little scary. I'm not calling a paired door card in a smallish pot without a little something. I had only played against this guy a couple of times, so he may not have realized that Kings-up is about the minimum hand I can have here. There were at least five players in that game who would have checked to me on fifth street.

Having gotten to the river, the pot's big enough that he almost has to call, but he can't like it. There's little point in betting. I'm not calling without having Tens-up beaten, and it's very unlikely that I've gotten this far with a worse hand anyway. I think the only play is to chicken call. In order to fold, he'd have to be more than 90% sure he was beaten, and I'm rarely 90% sure about much of anything.

Decided to revive this thread as we have many new posters of late. This is one of the best posts I have read at this site, Good job Andy B. I think of this post everytime I fail to make the obvious value bet.
