If you'd win everytime by getting your chips in the pot with the best of it, I would have my seat too....

I guess there'll be a 500-750K prize pool

You mean like this? You were the SB in this hand.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (8 handed) converter

UTG+1 (t18420)
Hero (t24355)
MP2 (t41675)
CO (t4189)
Button (t17900)
SB (t4845)
BB (t27080)
UTG (t11815)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
6 folds, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (t775) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, BB checks.

Turn: (t775) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, BB bets t400, SB raises to t800, BB calls t400.

River: (t2375) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets t3620 (All-In), BB calls t3620.

Final Pot: t9615

Results in white below:
BB has 8c 4s (three of a kind, fours).
SB has 6d 7d (one pair, fours).
Outcome: BB wins t9615.

Won’t be playing due to family obligations.
I would guess, that it will be rather light due to the holiday for others as well.
Very surprised that if they want to give an overlay as a holiday gift (nice gesture), they don’t do it on a more reasonable day other than Xmas.
Kind of sucks in my opinion. What are we suppose to do, have x-mas dinner with friends and extended family with the laptop fired up.
What do others think about this?

I think this is kind of a weird decision on the part of PokerStars management. December 25 is the last Sunday of the month so ordinarily they would have their $500+30 tourney with a $700K guarantee. I imagine they figured they wouldn't get enough players to make the guarantee (because of the holiday), so they decided to turn that into a positive aspect that they could promote by calling it "$100K added". However, it might have been a better idea just to hold the $700K tourney on a different day (such as Saturday Dec. 31). I don't know that it's in PokerStars' best interest to create family strife by tempting their players to play in such a positive-EV tournament rather than spend time with their spouse, kids, or what-have-you on Christmas Day.

Anyone care to estimate how many runners this tourney will have? My guess is 1400-1500.

If they do get 1500 entrants, the prize pool would be $850,000 or $566.67 per person on average. How does that affect your EV? I suppose for a good player who typically has positive EV in a $530 tournament, this promotion would be worth about $100 additional EV. A typical bad player probably has EV around -$200, so even with the added money in the Dec. 25 tournament, most bad players will not have positive EV.

I think they're adding $100K to help boost attendance, since they likely won't get anywhere near the normal Sunday turnout.

Apparently getting your money in as a favorite is actually good in poker. Who knew! I'm in now, see you all there.
