Default Stud8 - Day 2, Hand 9

Hold'em has made me afraid of cold-calling. I don't know if it's so bad in stud since lots of hands tend to have similar strength after 3.

I've got a crappy low, but it has good prospects for high. There's only one dead heart, but that was the bring-in and he came in for a raise. I'm short a 6 for the gutshot part of the straight, and some of my pair cards are dead (which is good for low, bad for high). It's also probably going to be a 3-handed pot.

7 Card Stud High-Low ($0.25/$0.50), Ante $0.05 (converter)

You'd have to pry those cards out of my cold, dead fingers.

edit--adding a disclaimer that I've never really played this game that much... (end edit)

I'm calling--flush is mostly live, straight has two dead, cards you need for a low appear more live than the other two hands. A lot of low cards those hands need are mostly dead. I'm not folding this without at least seeing the next card given those upcards.

BTW, while cold-calling raises is usually wrong in limit hold'em, it is often correct in this game. There really aren't that many hands that I'll play in an unraised pot that I won't play in a raised pot.

I agree with Andy.... low straight flushes are a dynamite hand. Given villain's likely range (and that's presuming they are reasonable players) i would call two cold here if the 4,6,7, and 8 were live.

I'm surprised to hear this andy... there's a lot of hands that I would play in unraised pots that I would typically fold in raised pots.

Ace low rough kickers (A67, maybe A87)
low connecting pairs (223 to 887)
suited connecting pairs (JJQ to QQK)

Ace low pair (A22 to A77) I'll always [play for the bring in but might fold to a raise.

If you add up all these hands, I think that's more than half my hand range. What do you think Andy... is this too loose in unraised pots or too tight in raised ones?

First rule of the game is to play scoopers, hands that can take the whole pot.

I would prefer this hand over A27 rainbow, generally speaking. Well, at least 237 rainbow.

Can you explain why cold-calling often correct in this game?

Reading this post made me want to kill you and steal your cards. I'd raise the BI's bet and cap it if it goes three.
