The San Diego/Denver game is in HD so it will vary on your locale. As to why here goes: None of the networks own their own HD trucks, they are leased in advance. Fox thought far ahead and has most of the leases locked up for Sundays through the end of this season. The HD trucks are a major investment and take much time to build and equip. Basically there are not yet enough of them to be at every televised game in every market yet. Also the added expense of production probably enters into the equation as you indicated but even if they wanted to as of today CBS must make choices as to which game will be televised in HD

Also it is possible that your local station just forgot to flip the switch. Yes believe it, other than Fox stations and affiliates all others must physically switch back and forth from SD and HD. Crazy huh?

Johnny,

I did some more in depth research and found that CBS (because of it's older HD infrastructure) is only technically capable of broadcasting three HD games. These games are chosen based on National ratings. So it is unfortunate that CBS started broadcasting HD nearly five years ago but this means they need to spend a small fortune to upgrade in order to do more than 3 games in HD.

If it makes you feel any better the Colts game in the morning was in SD for those markets.

Wow, that's a much better response than I was anticipating from anyone. Thanks.

Default Bad move

This thread isn't about a sporting event, it's about the CBS network and their HD capability.

Not to dispute your eyes but I don't see how. DTV Sunday ticket does not have this game in HD nor is CBS broadcasting it in HD. I don't know about DISH but I believe they also get their transmission from the main CBS feed.
