Fast Betters Are Always Bluffers.
7 handed. $.25/$.50 NL.
I straddle for $2 UTG. Folded to Tight/Weak/Loose/Aggressive/Drunk/High. He'd be good if this was deliberate, but I think he honestly cannot control his poker playing. It just an extension of how he feels at the moment. He calls. Folded back to me, and they assure me my straddle is not live. I pout. I look down and see two cards. One of them is a seven, and one of them is low. Flop comes down with a seven, and two low cards, which unfortunately don't match my low card. Red, Black, Red. Not the same reds. I check, he bets $2. I call. Turn is a 10, and I can tell that's his "TYPE" of card. Maybe in my mind numbers are racing, matching up all his possible ranges of hands. Hah. He wanted to reraise me preflop but something held him back. I check, he bets $5 almost as fast as I checked. I call almost as quickly. The river pairs a low card, (still not mine) I check, he bets $10, I call. |

Straddling is fun. Calling down is fun. Is there anything else we're supposed to learn here?

What's a straddle? and what makes it live or not?

Re: Fast Betters Are Always Bluffers.
A straddle is basically a bet you make blindly. Being live means it is treated as an actual blind, letting you act last on that round as the BB normally would.
