Default Flopped Set of Kings - Line Check

Been playing a bunch of freerolls and low stakes MTTs to get and get warmed up to them and optimal play in them, without spending too much money.

I think I played this really bad. On the flop I was not concerned at all -- this is an incredibly innocent board. I decided to play it slow, and it worked out -- I found a bet behind me.

There were basically twelve turn cards I was concerned about (Q,J,T) -- and one came. So I freaked out and pushed the turn.

Really bad right? What's your line? I couldn't figure it out. I thought a) I probably should have check-raised the flop, b) bet out the flop, or c) led out for something more like 300 on the turn.

Help!

You should not be that worried about that turn. Pushing is ok I guess with that many other people in the hand, but I would have put out maybe a half pot bet. Though these freerolls tend to be a little goofy, you still have a bunch of outs to boat up on the river.

Don't panic on this turn, even in a normal tournament.

Villain is going to call you with a str8 anyhow, so why frighten off what could only be a gutshot 4 outer in the worst case for you: ~11:1.

Hero bets T250 giving implied odds of ~7:1, anyone who thinks they have 6 outs will call.

this is pretty much why i thought my play was particularly bad. even though i would clearly call a push here, i may as well give some donk the opportunity to call off/bluff off some more chips instead of scaring everyone away.

bet 250 into a 1000 pot? its possible that the second spade has given someone a flush draw, so I'd prefer a bit more protection against that.. also factor in the liklihood of overcallers.. 450 is the number id go with.

Well by the turn I think I only had like 690 left, so 450 would look a bit fishy.

I think you are giving far too much credit to the majority of freeplay competitors here. If they are going to call 250 with a flush draw they are going to call 450.

People read HOH I and II and think H has the answers for their games at all levels. What applies to the game level HOH is addressing doesn't necessarily apply to freeplays and low dollar SNGs.

The initial 100 TC raise is fine--as you see, you got a lot of callers. Once the K flopped, it was probably in your best interests to push and attempt to take the pot then and there, although, with freeplaying fish you may well have gotten several callers even then, all still needing two cards to make their hands!

I am interested in the psychology of pushing after the scary turn card came up, but not before--were you hedging your bet or what?

good. Let them draw at an incorrect price.. thats all we want... no point laying them the correct price if they will call when priced out.

Well as I've said in this thread I think it wss a mistake.

My thought was that if I let it check through, and a T or 9 came on the river, I pretty much had to muck top set. Which wasn't something that I wanted to do. So I figured if someone had the QT, I would just suck out a fullhouse, and if not, I wasn't letting a naked T or Q draw to a straight for free.

And I thought any bet other than allin might look mighty fishy.

The pyschology is that hero got scared.

That was the best possible card to show up on the turn. There isn't a better card in the deck for hero except maybe an ace. Villain's need to improve to play. Hero is way ahead and can afford for them to improve.
