Default Obligation to Show Both Cards?

I know players can demand to see an opponents cards if those cards went to show down, but is a player who wins a hand with a bet (and everybody folds) and then shows only one card to the table actually obligated to show the other card?

No, he's not. He can show, or not show, anything he chooses.

I don't believe so but I think it is a tell that you might be an ass if you only show one card to the table. I will probably get some disagreement on this but I figure show both cards or none.

In the State of Indiana, if there is a showdown, (I understand in your scenario there is not a showdown)you have to show both hole cards to be awarded the pot. I often see dealers let this slide.

no.

If you haven't already been joking around and talking with the table, they might think you're an ass.

But if you're at a fun table, anything goes.

the common misconception here is the phrase, "show one, show all"

This means if you show one person your cards, you must show everyone. It is often misunderstood to mean, if you show one card, you must show all your cards. This is incorrect unless it is a showdown where you must show both cards to be awarded the pot (unless the other player mucks).

Apparently a few cardrooms in the country have a "show one, show both" rule. However, it's very rare, and I have never once been in a room where this was the rule. It's a STUPID rule anyway, and in my experience only TROLLS AND NITS ever try to invoke the rule.

I play a lot of 2/4 lhe on the Strip with the tourists. Quite often, a guy who consistently shows only one card will poison the table against him. The tourists expect the casino game to 'run' like a home game, keeping everything fun and following the 'rules of conduct', one of which seems to be 'winners show both cards'.

Table image is a huge weapon at these games, and many, otherwise ordinary, things can get you labelled as a butthead by the other players. Not just 'showing one card', but also live straddles or something as minor as moving the button for the dealer.

... and if there are two or more couples at the table, watch out!
