ew, "posetion" looks gross. I thought I fixed that.

Anyhow, I can't see it lasting too long once they get down to 5-3. I think a 4th round would be rare.

BTW, who's your team Razor?

Well in the hockey version, Team A gets a full two minute 5-on-4 powerplay to score as much as they can, if at all. Then Team B gets the same chance. If one scored more goals, they win. If they are tied, they go again. As an added twist, the second round could be 5-on-3, though I don't think a possible third round should be played 5-on-2.

[/ QUOTE ]

interesting, teams would then load up on power play and short handed specialists in the free agent market. Overall though this idea seems fairly reasonable, especially compaired to a shootout.

Tie Domi and quality don't belong in the same sentence.

[/ QUOTE ]

Domi did a very good job during the playoffs last year. Lots of heart.

That's an interesting idea, and one I like a little better than the shootout. But I wonder, why is everyone so up-in-arms about regular season ties? Hockey has always had regular season tie games, hasn't it? Granted I've only been watching for about ten years. But has there ever been a time, at least since the original six era started, that regular season games never ended in ties? I just tried to look it up online, but couldn't find it quick and have to get back to work. I just don't understand why we need to artificially award an extra point to a team if the game ends in a tie. I don't see what's wrong with a regular season tie.

I think most hockey fans agree with what you said. The NHL thinks that in order to draw in new fans and to overall increase public interest in the game, that these changes to are needed to make things more "interesting and exciting".

Unfortunately, that's exactly it. It's mostly an attempt to reach out to the American fan. That's where the demand for it is coming from.

Domi is a much better hockey player than he gets credit for. Which is mostly his own fault. In the regular season, he spends less time actually playing than he does with all his 'extra-curricular' activities. If he just played, he'd get more respect.

He'd be a good fit with the Penguins too - they'll need some muscle to protect Lemieux, Crosby, Malkin & Recchi.

Hell - on that team, Domi would be the 5th best player.

I guess. I live in Massachusetts, and everybody I talk to doesn't like the idea of a shootout, to a man. But it's possible that up here in New England we have more hockey fans, even just casual fans, than say in Phoenix or Atlanta.
I went to a few AHL games last year in Lowell, MA (mostly Providence Bruins vs. Lowell Lock Monsters) and I attended one where there was a shootout (wild game-score was tied 7-7 after OT), and the crowd did seem entertained by it.
I'll live with anything that brings enough fans to the game where I can watch hockey on National TV more than once a week. I'm a big enough fan of the game where I want to see games other than Bruins games, but don't want to shell out money for the Center Ice package, as I'm not going to watch every night. I'd like to see ESPN or whoever will be showing the games throw it on more than one night a week.
