Default Hold\'em Versus Blackjack

I want to be a full-time poker player playing for a living after my retirement. Which game should I devote my effort and time to, hold'em or blackjack?

Blackjack isn't poker and is -EV.
Play poker. Its more social anyway.

Good counters are +EV.

Nevertheless, holdem is much better. Less variance. No getting beat up in the backroom.

If you devote 1000 hours to BJ you can be mintuely +ev, if you devote 50 hours to hold'em and play low limit you can be +ev.

Poker online

Blackjack you have to play at a b&m casino...and unless you are in Nevada, you will have limited opportunities...even then, you will need to have about $10,000 and backcount/wong the strip casino's to make decent money ($25/hour with limited numbers of hours per week available)...it will take you a couple of months to learn basic strategy, and another couple of weeks to learn the key variations, but another couple of weeks of research/analysis/creative thinking to learn the best betting ramps and how to disguise your ability...

Currently, due to the boom in interest about poker, you can earn a better income by playing online poker, plus get sign up bonuses to get started building you bankrool...not sure if the current boom will last, but the pickings are good for poker right now....poker on tv has revived interest in the game after it waned at the California cardrooms in the 70's-80's-early 90's. Who knows how long the boom will last, but get your share while you can!

Give the new guy a break with the abbreviations!

traderjlau: "EV" means "expected value". If you play a game with a positive EV, then you are making money. EVERY casino game except card-counting blackjack and dice-throwing system craps are -EV, because you are playing against the casino, and casinos only exist because they can exploit player's lack of math knowledge. Play poker!

Just play blackjack, and when you lose, keep doubling your bets until eventually you win, then go back to your initial bet. You will be unstoppable! Don't tell too many other people about this strategy though, we dont' want it getting out there and then the casinos would know.
