I would be interested to know about these spots as I will be in NO sometime this summer. Not only food but where to find a good 3-6 game of holdem or omaha. Any help appreciated, thanks.

im not an expert but if your looking for some poker and have sometime to kill its only an hour drive to biloxi from NO and the grand casino there is pretty good room. If you are looking for touristy things to do go to the aquarium its across the street from harrahs and its actually pretty neat for a 2 hour kill. Just a word of advice bourbon street can get dangerous so dont wander down the side streets. Have fun.....

I am from NO, but now I just visit 2 times a year (thinking of relocating). The best food in town "Ye Old College Inn" off of Carolton. Its not downtown, but its not to far and its worth it. If you don't want to leave downtown go to "ACME Oyster House" off Canal St. (5 minutes from Harrahs )

I havent played in Harrahs poker room yet because I spend most of my time on the Westbank of town (its home ). When I am downtown I am with alot of people who don't want to watch me play cards. Try to make it to Boomtown if possible. Its on the westbank (Lapalco Blvd.) about 15 minutes out of the city. Nice little cardroom on the 2nd floor. Last time I was there the lowest spread was 3-6. This city is all about ommaha and 7-card stud. You will have a better chance of finding lower limits at Boomtown, opposed to Harrahs (I've heard). Good luck, have fun and don't drink 3 Hurricanes and gamble.......you won't win. Trust me. Give us a report when you get back.

Check back a week or 2, there's a couple of threads that discuss poker in NOLA.

Regarding food, NOLA is one of the great cities for food. If you're looking for something upscale any of the Emril's places are good as is Commander's Palace. Middle of the road is the Red Fish Grill on Bourbon, right off Canal.

If you want great NOLA food in a very casual setting and are willing to wait a bit and take a ride uptown, Jacque's-Imo on Oak is my favorite. Try the Eggplant Jacque-Imo and Fried Green Tomatoes for appetizers, and any fish, with any sauce for an entree. The cornbread is out of this world. I can't tell you about dessert, as I'm always too full to think about eating dessert.

quality cuisine in new orleans is unfortunately limited to only about 1,000 or so different restaurants.

harrah's is the only casino actually IN new orleans. boomtown is about 15 mins or so. biloxi is about an hour.

harrah's is probably the place to play....3/6 and 6/12 as i recall. maybe higher on the weekends. i like the casino itself, pretty nice...but the poker-room is too noisy for some tastes. i like it but many have stated that they absolutely hate it.

you could probably do just as well to ask your new friends at the table as to dining suggestions. some will be tourists who will have no clue, others will be tourists who have been to NO before and will have good suggestions. and you'll probably meet a local or two who will able to spout off their 20 favorite restaurants off the top of their head.

i've had many-an-amazing meal in new orleans....most of the places had names i can never recall.

there's a nice, new and kind of bigger place on bourbon st that was justifiably getting good reviews. there are a few good restaurants on decatur street.....and the various french quarter side-streets...etc etc etc.

As far as resturants go, you can't go wrong with Cafe Masperro, Irene's, Commanders Palace, Brennen's, Palace Cafe, and the list goes on for hours.

If you want HE, go to Biloxi, Harrah's is all about the Omaha right now.

HE has now taken over as the leading game at Harrah's. Lots of 3/6 games, 1 or 2 6/12 games, weekends and busy nights there's a 10/20 going (at 1 point we got everybody to agree to raise the stakes so we played 15/30 one night). There is also a NL game going most of the time.

Bayona's is very good, K-Pauls (Paul Prudhommes) , Brigstens, Maspero's in the quarter are all great, be sure to buy some pralines from Southern Pecan, ride the street car and get some cheesecake from Copelands. I would stay away from Delmonico's, Mothers, and Antoines. I would also recommend taking a river boat ride and dinner if you have time, it is neat. As far as hotels, we can definitely recommend that you stay at LaPavillion. The rooms and hotel are wonderfully romantic and make for some good memories. New Orleans is a fun town, enjoy !!
