Default Reasoning validation

NL Texas Hold'em $10 Buy-in + $1 Entry Fee Trny:14855747 Level:8 Blinds(200/400) - Monday, August 15, 03:40:07 EDT 2005
Table Table 10859 (Real Money)
Seat 1 is the button
Total number of players : 4
Seat 1: mathmatics ( $1745 )
SB: HERO ( $2610 )
BB: shad24 ( $2550 )
Seat 10: froggy21 ( $1095 )
Trny:14855747 Level:8
Blinds(200/400)
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to HERO [ K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ]
froggy21 folds.
mathmatics folds.
HERO is all-In [2410].

Since I have him covered, with 1 player having 2.5BB, I thought his calling range (given I should, in a perfect world, have some respect from him given my image) is extremely tight here... perhaps TT+, AQ+? Could even be QQ+ instead of TT.

What do you think?

PS/edit: do you think this move makes more sense at a higher buy-in?

This push is fine, IMO, unless you have some reason to believe that BB is a maniac who will call with way more than he should. With an even reasonably tight calling range, pushing is +EV.

I like pushing; I doubt he's loose enough to make it -$EV, plus if you succeed here you open up a bit of a gap that could help you win lots more chips if the bubble keeps going.

I played on Jesuspoker once and they lost my money. But it came back in three days.

Your reasoning is correct, the blinds are tasty and your hand is rarely dominated. Works better if BB is not a loose donkey. nh

The push is good, but at the 10+1's, that predicted calling range is unrealistically tight unless you actually specifically know that this guy's a good player. No one at the 10+1's is folding everything but TT+, AQ+. Add AJ, AT, 88+ at least.

But yes, to answer your question, this is a perfect time for this move at higher buy-ins, and still a good time even with the comparatively larger calling ranges at a 10+1.

Brimstone,

One thing that you said that caused me problems at the 10's was this:

Very few players at the tens are paying attention to table image. Even the players that are good enough to notice might be playing 8 to 12 tables.

To take a bite off of your subject, do not let things like "I should have a good reputation" enter into your reasoning. Players at the lower level play their own cards, and not much else.

Nice Push, I'd make it every time.
