Here are my guidlines for a dollar tip (3/6 HE w/$3 drop):
1) The pot >$50.
2) The dealer is exceptional.
3) I am ahead in the game.
4) The dealer has never forgotten to acknoledge my gesture.

[/ QUOTE ]

I follow these exact same rules. At a 3/6 game, the pot will often be in the 8BB range, so I get to skip quite a few tips. I usually include a 9BB pot also, since after rake and BB drop it will be exactly $50, but not more. When that happens I just say, "Sucks to be you."

I find that only tipping the exceptional dealers gives the others more incentive to improve. Some dealers who are just starting out--or of intermediate skill--but who might have gone on to be great dealers, may quit because they're only making minimum wage but why should I help them support themselves long enough to stay in the box and improve? Sucks to be them.

The third rule is very important. We all know that how far ahead/behind we are in a session is directly related to the quality of the dealer. It's their fault my flush draw didn't get there, so they gets no tip! (On a side note, I also follow a similar rule when taking a date to dinner: If it looks like the girl I'm with will put out at the end of the night I'll tip the waitress. If my date is being frigid... sucks to be me, so sucks to be you.)

Finally, I've NEVER forgotten to tip (in fact, I've never forgotten anything in my life) so they should NEVER forget to acknowledge my show of magnanimity. If they forget, then sucks to be them... from now on.

You must be really looking forward to tipping your first waitress.

If you win a decent size pot, toss the dealer a buck.

If you win a collosal pot, toss them more.

If you feel like tipping more than this, feel free.

If you steal the blinds, a tip is not required.

If the dealer is a major A-hole, don't tip them, but don't take it out on the next dealer.

If the dealer is extremely new, but they are obviously trying, tip them. Trust me, getting tips is what inspires dealers to improve, and most of them improve quite fast once they start seeing the tip money roll in.

If someone tells you NOT to tip, kick them in the nuts and toss the dealer another buck.

Hey Horn Frog.

I lived IN FtW for about a thousand years untill I moved to Las Vegas. well I just seemed like a thousand years after I moved to Las Vegas . Any how, I think I have come up with the best way to toke dealers.. Toke them at the end of their time at the table. toke equal with the level of perfection they showed during that down.

If the dealer does a bang up job toke them a cheque (chip) or two before they rise after their down. Be sure to say "Thanks for the good Job, Down," etc.

If they totally suck, Kick Al in the nuts and toss the best dealer in the place a buck.

this way it is easy to keep track of how much your toking off. It encourages the dealers to have near perfect downs and apply the rules fairly and expeditiously. keeps your toking consistent when either winning or losing and reminds Al not to be a smug ass.

I have a different approach to tipping to most here.

I think tipping is for service. How well or poorly I do, shouldn't impact on the dealer's making a living. Basically, I want the dealer to keep the game moving at a good pace.

So, I usually toss the dealer a buck whenever the button comes around to me 'for luck'. Since I play pretty tight, and win fewer than 10% of my hands, the dealer is doing somewhat better than if I only tipped when I won. If s/he moves the game quickly, the tips come around sooner.

Of course, if the makes a bad table call or something, I'm free to 'skip' a tip, but this is pretty rare.

What do others think of this?
