Default Zeno\'s Weekend Prison: The Los Angeles Airport Marriott

Feb 25-26. Company 'Professional Development & Technical Training Seminar’. Like a slobbering and crass fool, I signed up to go. 'They' want me there. The sessions start early and it is – Mandatory - that you attend everything from 8 in the morning until 8 at night at which point you are unshackled from your ball & chain long enough to run up to the hotel room and change your underwear - just before dinner. A Large Company Banquet at 8 pm on Saturday is also – Mandatory - with no doubt the customary limp jokes, pandering speeches, Company pep talk ballyhoo, and general idiocy. As a misanthrope, I balk at attending such proceedings; still I will endure and be charming.

But hope springs eternal, and Hollywood Park Casino is only a few inches away from LAX according to a map I checked out on the web. So with luck and a fast getaway, I hope to slink away on Friday night (and possibly on Saturday also, but at least one of those days) and get in some poker. Since the ‘Company’ made all arrangements, I fly out on Sunday at about 8 am or some ungodly hour so I may just stay up all night and then vomit streams of rotting bilge and undigested Mai Tai’s all over LAX as I desperately sprint to make my flight - My noble contribution to the cultural joie de vivre that is Los Angeles.

This trip report rocks, and it hasn't even happened yet.

Alas, I too am engaged on both Friday and Saturday nights, Friday with an Asian vendor who requires attention and entertainment (why he chose me for either mystifies me, but truth is indeed stranger than fiction), and Saturday night for a bar mitzvah, the miscreant a slobbering, snot-nosed (literally) sibling of one of my son's friends.

So doesn't look like we'll be able to, finally, meet. Hopefully, though, soon.

Enjoy LA.

I might be at HPC on Friday night, if I can convince the wife to let me play poker two weeks in a row. If so, I'll show up around 9:00 and probably be embedded in the 15 game by 9:30. If you're playing there on either Friday or Saturday, the 10 or 15 games are nice and soft. 20 is a little more aggressive, but still not too rough. (I can't speak to the 40 game, as I don't play that high. Yet.) If you're just looking to blow off some steam, sit in the 10 game and bust on the guy in the 9 seat. He's a good-natured fellow -- and a rather bad poker player.

Sorry about the prison part, Z. When you go to HP be sure to take a cab or the like, or use valet parking, unless you're armed.

Zeno,

I always figured you did something lonely and totally antisocial, like write twisted mystery novels under an alias, or kill people.

"unless you're armed'

Any reason you know of he wouldn't be?
