What is the best single peice of tourney advice you\'ve been given?
Just getting into tourneys, and since i don't really know what questions to be asking yet, maybe thiss'll help me (and others?) hmmm...
What was the best peice of tournament advice that you've ever been given? for me, it was: "Be aggressive on the bubble if you have an avarage or big stack- it's a great time to steal blinds and target the final table instead of just making the money- people tend to play scared at that stage and the blinds get relitivly big." before i read that, i had been far too catious around the bubble and had been barely getting to the money, with very few chips and a correspondingly small chance of scoring a big win. so... best advice you've been given... whatcha got? comments on the one i posted? |

Bubble aggression is one that I still try to work on, so I really like that advice.
Personally, becoming proficient at the short stack and making timely pushes over a PFR (with or without air) when I have 12-15BB's has made all the difference in the world to my game. Regards, Woodguy |

c'mon, now... kinda like... "there is really no substitute for catching cards."- the best stud/8 advice i ever got that didn't do anything at all to help my game.. or, are you saying that outlasting 90% of the feild is the skill part, then you ...need to get cards? hmmm? |

Re: What is the best single peice of tourney advice you\'ve been given?
well, it works pretty well when you're on button or in blinds, and there's an openraise from LP or LMP that could likley be a steal. if you have 12-15BB its a pretty good time to push if you have anything reasonable.
if there's a decent chance the player is on a total steal you increase your stack a ton, but they'll still call you pretty loose since your stack isn't too big, so if you got something like AT or KQ you might actually be a favorite when you get called. so its just like a really profitable semibluff if you don't overuse it. |

if you consistantly got all in with a 55% favorite, you would be the best tournament player ever.

Not really sure if I know of a ready thread on the subject...have you checked the threads in the sticky? (not being an ass, just asking )
Might be a good subject to start a thread with if you don't find what you want. Regards, Woodguy |

Re: What is the best single peice of tourney advice you\'ve been given?
If you’re playing big MTT's, don't get clever until the bubble!! I will repeat, until at least two thirds of the entrants have gone, do not try and get clever! The amount of times ive gone out trying to be smart when the tourney is still heaving with fish. The flip side of this is, push good hands hard near the beginning, the great thing about tournaments is it’s hard for people to know if they are any good or not, in cash, a fish figures is out quickly, he goes broke. In a tournament, it’s harder to tell because statistically you win so infrequently anyway.
