Default Slow INTERNUTS

I just got a new laptop, and am finding the wireless connection to the internet to be spotty. Ping tests will occasionaly time out, and/or return slow response times. Downloads and transfer rates in general are very slow (rarely will a download exceed 5k/s). I'm using an Intel Pro 2200BG wireless card. My other laptop has no such problems using the same wireless network. The new computer is a Dell Inspiron 9300. What should I check for to fix this problem? OMGHELP
