Not that I have any cred around here, but I can confirm that they did indeed get on the PA mid-day on Sunday and announce the "rule".

Several seemingly knowledgeable players at my table nodded their heads sagely and commented on how that's always been the rule, and it's to discourage collusion. Pretty much every other table within earshot (I was in a corner of the room at table 22) had at least one person making loud comments about how it was ludicrous.

Something tells me I should've been able to get more chips at my first table.

Those people would be on crack. It encourages collusion, not discourages it. The capped betting rule in limit is to prevent collusion, but in NL, you can make the bets as big as you want to dump chips anyhow. However, capping the betting in NL leads to other forms of collusion where you can throw in the 3rd bet to lock out another player from re-raising.

Suppose it's preflop and you have JT suited. UTG raises and there is a small reraise in front of you. OK, you should probably fold here, but you could also throw in a 3rd raise and cap the pot, preventing UTG from reraising a large amount, and hence getting you a cheap flop to see if you hit. And as I posted to RGP, you can also "Hack-a-Shaq" and have people do 3 min raises preflop and lock out someone from making a large raise.

i get your point about how the rule could foster collusion but i'm lost on this example ... does it assume that these min raises have to at least double the previous raise? because if so, after three min-raises, isn't the final bet already very large (8x) relative to the original bet?

i do see how it prevents the bully from going all-in, though.

Denny Williams, who I believe is the Tournament Director at the Bicycle Casino, used to comment on Live @ The Bike. Based on some of his comments during the shows, it would not surprise me if he was the one claiming the rule is in the TDA. He's an idiot in my opinion. There was one broadcast where he said he enforces the "show one show all rule" by forcing a player that flashes a single card to the table to show the other card. Ummmm...yeah, that's what that rule means Denny. Idiot.

They don't have to be twice the size of the previous bet, they just have to be at least the size of the previous bet. So if the blinds are 25/50 you can raise to 100, 150 and cap it at 200.

I've been told this rule is in effect at the river rock casino in vancouver, but I've never seen it enforced.

Default Bet and 2 raises?

in Perry's hand I'm confused on what is the first bet and what are the 3 raises. All I see is 3 raises. Isn't the UTG considered THE bet and the others the raises, which would be one bet and 2 raises.

You can also "thank" Denny for the F-word rule.
