Out of curiosity, if people aren't following the church's rule that they shouldn't screw around, why do they think that if the church made a rule saying that you should wear condoms, people would do it?

That's not the issue at all. The Church isn't in the disease prevention business. Again, people don't listen to the pope about abstinence, it's silly to think they'll suddenly start listening about condoms. Blaming the Church when their teachings are 100% effective is to absolve the idiots who contract AIDS of any and all personal responsibility. They messed up, they die. Them's the breaks.

[/ QUOTE ] My problem is not with teaching abstinance it is with DISCOURAGING condom use. YES! Many people try to follow the teachings of the church. Since they are going to have sex anyway (my sample size is 5000 years of history) these same people might rationalize that at least they could use protection while doing so. Instead the Pope is encouraging them NOT TO USE CONDOMS that is why I said that he is an idiot. It is not hard to make the inference that Catholicism is contributing to high risk behavior.
