Default Heartland tourney at Jackpot Junction next weekend

Anybody here going to play in it?

I'm playing in the 4pm Saturday shift.

Can who has played in the other Heartland tournies tell me anything about them? (blind structures, quality of play, etc.)

Apparently not a popular game with the Minnesota 2+2ers? Maybe that helps my chances.

I'll let this thread die after this bump if no one responds.

Friday 4PM

I played the first one last month at Northern Lights. It was run pretty well, although there were no monitors with blind levels and timers. The TD seemed to be new to tournies, but did a fine job. The check-in table was well run. The dealers did a fine job.

The final table was set up profesionally with scaffolding around it for lights. I was impressed with the production quality.

On a technical note, I know they were a few players short of breaking even on the prize side. If FSN paid them for broadcast rights, they may have broke even for the event, as the radio and print ads for the tourny were not cheap...

They have a great idea as far as having other casinos run satellites for the casino hosting the event.

I'm not sure why they are having two events in August and none in July.

One of the dealers at St. Croix (where the Aug 25-28 event will be held) said something about Heartland tryiong to get 'name players' to come in. Probably have to be broke name players who need a $30k first place win to get their craps and horse betting BR up to snuff (if ya know what I'm sayin' without mentioning names...)

article in Full Tilt magazine

The blind structure at Northern Lights started at 25/50 with 10K in play chips.

Since the Jackpot event has a 275 entry versus 550, it might be 5K in play chips, but I'm not sure.

Jackpot also has a WPT satellite coming up in mid October. $200--very cheap. The sat is for the Foxwoods WPT event.

Took 7th place today. Missed the TV cut by one, but had a great run of cards and cashed $4200.

There were four qualifying rounds: 11AM and 4PM on Fri and Sat. I made the top 9 on Fri 4PM.

I had mixed results with regular hands, but went all in seven times and won each time. Despite being behind each time, I made the draws I needed. Made it to the fimal table of eleven and coasted until two more got knocked out.

Came back today at 9AM along with 39 others. The magic continued. Second hand AA. A JJ goes all in, I call and win unimproved. Some time later I flop quad 10's and bet the flop and turn hard and go all in on the river. One guy stayed with me all the way with AK and a A1010 flop. He still had some chips left, but was soon out. Took out another guy who was all in with 11k--got a K on the river to go with my AK and make a better boat than him

Around noon we were down to 10--4 more until the TV final table. At 12:30 we were down to 7. I was second to last in chips and the payout for 6th and 7th were not much different. I didn't want to be the short stack at the TV table and have to go all in on some random hand and get knocked out.

So I waited for as good a hand as I could get with the blinds at 6k/12k and me at 187k. I got an AhQd. UTG raised to 36k, I called. The guy behind me raised to 100k. Folded to me, I go all in. Raiser calls with QQ. I knew I;d probably be behind, but I still had a decent hand headsup, I needed to make a move to simultaneously double up and knock someone off to be comfortably stacked and have momentum for the final 6, and I had been making my draws all through the tourny.

The flop did not have an Ace, but it had two hearts. The turn had another heart. Got mucho outs to suck out on the river. Maybe too many. All my all ins were made by hitting one of a few outs. I always seem to hit a few outs but whiff when I have many outs.

Didn't make an Ace or a heart. Out on the bubble with no regrets.

I'll be at the Heartland event on the 25th at St. Croix casino. Give me a Sup Bro

It doesn't really help that Jackpot Junction is in the sticks.

I started a thread on the HPT a while ago to see if anyone had playd before or is going to play. in WPT ect.

I am going to play in the one at Theif River Falls any thoughts of the general structure and whatnot ?

I have never played a deep stacked live tourney before, should be a blast.

The "satellites" (for lack of a better term) seemed ok - we started with 10k in chips, blinds 25/50, moved up every 30 minutes. They went 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, then the antes kicked in 1k/2k + 100a, 2k/4k+ 200a, 3k/6k + 300a, and we finished at 4k/8k + 400a.

In the "main event", we started with 30,000 in chips and blinds 500/1000. Same increase in blinds, except they didn't start the antes right away, they waited for a few rounds. We ended up at 6/12k when we got to the final 6. Then for the TV table, they moved the blinds back to 3k/6k to give us a little more play.

Overall it was run very well, the blinds were good except for the first part of the main event - those blinds were high considering our chip counts.

We also agreed to pay everyone who made the main event. They originally only paid the top 25, but we voted overwhelmingly to pay all 39 players who made it through. Although they ended up with smaller payouts, it was probably worth it, since it prevented a lot of stalling to get in the money, and there was more action since players were less afraid to bust out.

Todd from the HPT played in the NL cash game at St. Croix last night. He had been in Chicago the past few days signing up a TV station to add to the list of HPT broadcasters.

He also said Treasure Island (Minn) may host an event soon, but Canterbury probably won't because they "have issues with one of the HPT sponsors being an online poker room".
