Default XMas in January! JoeU to Commerce 1/14

Hi all!

My Christmas present finally arrives next week. I am meeting JTG51 at the Commerce in LA on 1/14 for my first trip to LA. The wife is staying home, so it'll be 2 days of poker, then back to the Mrs and little one.

Any chance any LA 2+2ers gonna be in town? I'd love to meet up for a quick dinner maybe Saturday.

Also, any suggestions on getting from LAX to the Commerce? Cab, rental, shuttle service from the casino?

Andyfox, I'll have my Matsui jersey, so you won't be the only Yankee fan in LA!

im pretty sure ill be available around that time, hell, im always available. What limits do you plan on playing?
i think ive heard commerce has a shuttle service, but you should call them up to confirm.
btw, it always seems tough to get LA 2+2ers to meet up at commerce, nobody ever responds when i post.

I called last night after I posted. They do. They asked me what i play and I said "Hold'em". The guy on the other end said "I'll transfer you to transportation, tell them Al said its ok". Now I have a ride.

I've never been to LA, so I wonder if maybe the city is so big that people just don't make it across town to play or something.

I'll be "slumming" in the low limit games up to 4-8. Like I said earlier, I'll probably wear my Yankees Matsui jersey Saturday, so I'm easy to spot.

I just wanted to bump this to the top thinking that I posted it too early.

I will be playing Saturday night in my "Matsui" NY Yankees jersey, and I usually use my 2+2 name to sign up for games. I should be in any game up to 5-10 (hold'em). I also use a $5 Bellagio slot coin as my card marker. Please feel free to say hi.

Joe:

Fun Commerce tips from a fellow FW 4-8 player:

1. Bring your cell-phone and talk all you want at the table - no FW ban!!

2. Practice your chip stacking techniques playing 4-8 with $1 chips - no $2 chips in this cardroom.

3. Order a fruit flavored "Boba milk tea" from woman pushing a cart and yelling what sounds like "Bubba Milty".

4. Order dinner from a menu (multi-national) that makes FW table dining look like a school cafeteria.

5. Learn the bad beat jackpot rules. The one rule I remember is never check the river if you think the jackpot is in play, someone must call a bet to qualify.

6. Rent a car so you can check out the Bike a few short miles away. Stay on the highway between LAX and the Commerce - no friendly Pequots in those neighborhoods.

7. Tip anyone who gets you anything - chip runner, food waiter (who is different from the cocktail waitress), dealer (no pooling of tips in this joint!!) and sometimes other players??? When I played at Commerce last there was a strange Chinese tradition at my table of sharing your good fortune (winning) with players near your by throwing a buck to nice players seated near you.

Good luck

First of all, I'm probably gonna start out by printing this post!

I have a blast doing this in Vegas. I may buy in for $500 to the 2-4 game!

Luckily, JTG is driving in, so we'll have a car. I'm sure we'll stop at the Bike, just to say I've been there. I've also managed to get a ride to/from LAX by the Commerce! I called, asked, and they took my info and said they'd pick me up at the airport. If they don't show, looks like I'll be cabbing it.

Thanks again for the tips. I'm sure I'll have a great time.

Joe

I'm not going to make it back to California in time to meet up with you, but I hope you guys have a great time.

Anyone in LA who gets the chance should make sure to meet Joe--he's a class act.
