Sklansky's Hold'em Poker For Advanced Players has a nice section on heads up.

I learned by dropped down a level from what I noramlly play and starting up tables. It is a lot of fun and you become soo much better at reading people. I really recommened doing this. I don't know if there are books that teach you this. Just remember, the raise button is your friend and don't start getting MUBS -good luck

That's good advice. I started doing that some months ago and it really helps with short-handed play. Be prepared for some heavy swings though. Most people play very scared when its short handed so abuse your position.
