annoying helicopter

ok so there has been a helicopter or something flying around here for the past 6 hours or so driving me nuts. i lay in bed and hear a rumble, getting louder and quieter as it circles the area or something. it never goes far enough to not hear it.
what would be a reason for a helicopter to be flying around for 6 hours at night ? i am clueless. this is a new experience for me, and i don't like it.
