He's now just another politician, as far as I am concerned. Right up there with Kennedy and Kerry.

[/ QUOTE ]

What was he before? A son of a politician (SOP)?

Congrats, you are now the member of a very small and elite group. Be proud.

Newfant's question seemed perfectly legit to me.

I'm sorry, newfant. George Herbet Walker Bush is a great man. I've met him. His big political downfall came from compromising with slimey Democrats.

His son, on the other hand, just lost all his excuses, in spite of doing some very righteous things. He has succeeded in snatching mediocraty out of the jaws of greatness. I don't think there will be any aircraft carriers named after him while he is still alive. Definately not another Reagan. You should be worried. After he is out of office, there won't be any great accomplishments a Democratic President coming after him can take credit for. What ever will you do?

No need to apologize. I'm rather enjoying watching this massive Republican downfall. The longer you guys stay in power (control of Congress for 11 years now and control of the White House for 5) the more the public gets to see what incompetent boobs the Republicans are.

There may be nothing left of your party by 2008. Cheers!

You called democrats "slimey" in an earlier post. Why not try to raise the bar on your posts first before asking others to do it?

I have to agree with you on this. Why does he have to purposely choose mexican/black/women to high positions? Pick the best person for the job, not the best political person.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have to agree with this. In fact, as time passes I have become more convinced that W should pick Luttig for the Supreme Court vacancy (despite his being a white male).

When a well qualified minority comes along, W has shown he is quite willing to appoint them, and to successful result. (Powell to State, Rice to State, Gonzales to Justice, etc.) No need to force the issue artificially.

It certainly is a question I agree with. I am intrigued by the reaction to the question. A reasonable question, posed in decent language, in response to an OP that was clearly made to make a political rather than an intellectual point.

Hmmm, perhaps newfant is right about hitting a nerve.

Default The inside track

The most important attribute in an appointee, for Bush, seems to be expected loyalty. Experience, intelligence or honesty take a back seat to expected loyalty. It's quite a bunker mentality.

Myers was an associate under independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr for about 16 months and has most recently served as a special assistant to President Bush handling personnel issues.

Her uncle is Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, the departing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She married Homeland Security secretary Chertoff's current chief of staff, John F. Wood, on Saturday.
