Default I still like cold calling my pairs.

Table is your typical table I guess. I just sat down, and havn't seen anything too weird. People are kinda agressive, a bit too loose.

What a weird hand. I would fold preflop though, unless I was really sure the blinds are coming along.

Well that turned out well for you.

I think I would throw up in my mouth if I cc an UTG raise with pocket 4s and then got 3-bet by the sb...

Yeah, that part sucked.

I would rather this thread didn't focus on preflop though.

Do you agree with my postflop play?

Absolutely.

But your subject title was "I still like cold calling my pairs" and the hand example you gave just reinforced why I don't...

Obviously you had a read - I am just not good enough to play those in that situation.

The SB 3-bet and then check smacks of 88-QQ type of play. I can't imagine what else he'd 3-bet that he'd check on the flop, unless he was going for a C/R and missed.

Given the pot size, I make a stab on the turn too, but I expect the SB to call me down with better pockets most of the time.

Although some people with PP get scared of the ace, I think a lot are betting them. Also, SB was a bit agro, and I think he could have 3-bet with KQs or KJs, or maybe even worse as he knew this was a gonna be a big multiway pot, and some people like raising with some garbage like JTs from here. I didn't really have a big read on SB, so I am just speculating, but the pot is big, and I think we have a chance. Maybe not often enough though...

Am I the only one who thinks this hand wreeks of Trip Aces?

Fold preflop is standard IMO. The way the hand played out though, you must bet the turn in case you are ahead, but I also would expect someone to show you a pocket pair higher than 4's (or AA). Betting the flop is not bad either. If you are C/R'd, the hand gets easier no?

Didn't say it had to be (AA) because it obviously does not. Does it really matter though, since no bigger pockets are folding anyway if they are out?
