Help Needed re: Scoring a Quiz

I'm writing a quiz, and I'm having <font color="black"> </font> a problem with the scoring. I hope you can help.

The quiz consists of five questions, and each question has four possible answers. Each of the questions are structured so that every "A" answer fits one profile, every "B" answer fits another profile, every "C" answer fits a third profile, and every "D" answer fits a fourth profile.

Without asking respondants to compute averages and keeping the scoring as simple as possible, how do you score the quiz so that the overall numerical score can be used to assign generic profiles to respondants and answer the
question, "If you scored ___, this means..."

Do the profiles overlap? If so, have the scores of adjoining profiles be close to each other. For example (for a psychology related poker poll):

Do you like to bet out a flush draw?

A. Never
B. Rarely
C. Some of the time
D. Always!

Profile 1: Fearful
Profile 2: Careful
Profile 3: Balanced
Profile 4: Type A personality

Then have your scoring chart say A = 1, B = 3, C = 5, B = 10. Set your profile ranges to say:

5-10: Fearful
10-20: Careful
20-35: Balanced
35+ Type A peronality

If they don't overlap or are not adjacent to one another, there's nothing wrong with getting a person to determine which letter they picked most. E.g. mostly As: Profile 1, etc.

Are you programming this quiz or is it on paper? Cause if you were programming it, I would mix the A B C D profiles around so only the computer knows which answers fit which profile... this way the user focuses on the questions and not trying to form his or her personal result.

If you are programming it, just have a variable for each answer, so everytime some one chooses A, that variable for that profile gets added one. At the end you can have the program compare values and determin the largest variable.
