i was knocked outta this tourney when I flopped two pair with AK and was OWNED when someone with A9 got turn and river 9s.

i was watchign up until the final 10 or so. good job on the win.

I scanned through some of the hands, I'm not impressed. Work on your heads up play. 44 is good in SB 3 handed, A9 is v good 3 handed on the button. There are other hands too but i'm lazy

After reading through some of the hands, on a hunch I did a quick scan and found the text "jfg999 calls" 20 times and "jfg999 raises" 5 times. This looks to me like extremely passive play for three-handed and heads up action. From what I can see, you passed up a lot of opportunities to steal blinds, and called down way too much. It looks like you stumbled into first by accident.

Congrats on the win, but if you want more of them I think you'll have to up the aggression considerably.

Passive play? Yes, that struck me, too, at first. But remember how small the blinds are. Except for the pitiful shortstack, the players' stacks are 20x or 50x the blinds for most of the action.

In such a situation, you can wait a long time for that wonderful chance to double through someone with a killer hand. Basically that's what hero did. He waited out the SB until he got A7 all in vs. A5. And he waited out the big stack until he got AJ all in vs. KJ. He won em both, and after that, it was mostly mopping up.

If the blinds were higher, waiting that long would be deadly. And if A7 had met a tougher hand or a harsher board, someone else would be posting the winner's history.

But, hey, there are hundreds of players saying "if, if, if," and one guy who won it. Interesting history. Glad it all worked out.

I disagree that this is the time to wait. The blinds are small, but they hit almost every hand. At the beginning of the history, Hero has an M of just under 12, and his stack diminishes by M every three hands. He has 36 hands until he's blinded off, unless SB folds to his BB. How often does a great hand come along? How often does a great hand go up against an opponent willing to get his chips in the middle? How often are you going to be fortunate enough to get all in against a dominated hand? I'm not saying go nuts, but our hero is simply going to hit first more often playing more aggressively.

hey guys, i appreciate the comments. As it was my first experience heads up like this which stacks this large compared to the blinds. jfern had had the dominant stack for the entire final table and once it got heads up i felt i had pretty good control of the situation even though he had over a 2 to 1 advantage. My plan heads up was to keep the pots small early and to outplay him after the flop. I was willing to passively play in small pots for as long as my stack could take it since I felt I could out 'patience' him since he had not been overly agressive at the FT (a huge mistake on his part imo). Had villian been more agressive heads-up I would of had to have pushed some smaller edges a little hard but as it was, he allowed me to passively stay in the game until I caught him with the K5 hand.

Hey, for the middle stack in a 3-handed finish, an M of 12 is a wonderful luxury. So often it's an M of 5 or less. In this case he doesn't have to play 44 for all his chips early on, and hope for a fold or the winning end of a coin flip, if he's going to remain a factor. At first I didn't like the 44 fold. But looking at the stack/blind ratio, I think it's fine.

in 3-handed play, any PP 77 or higher is a great hand. Ditto for almost any Ax. Probably the top 3 or 4 Broadway combinations, too. I'd say about 1:5 hands passes the test.

Fair point. But if it happens once in the first 10 hands, life is good. Our Hero waited and got paid off.

At the final stages of most tournaments -- with much lower Ms for everyone -- you're totally right. In this case, there was a lot more breathing room, and Hero's unusual strategy of waiting for a hand and trying to win it post-flop was possible.
