Re: Most underrated frontman
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] By fans yes but non-fans fail to absorb his brilliance. [/ QUOTE ] I think this is significantly less true for MJK than most others mentioned in this thread. Regardless, Maynard f'n rocks, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a douchebag. [/ QUOTE ] Aye! |

How about Isaac Brock? Any Modest Mouse fans? He's not really your typical rocker, but... he's good. [/ QUOTE ] modest mouse is so good everyone ought to hear their older albums, not just the new one on a real label. |

Re: Most underrated frontman
My vote goes to Layne Staley. [/ QUOTE ] Several years ago I saw Alice In Chains live, whilst I loved there music and thought Dirt was an awesome album, Staley was so stoned he could barely stand up let alone sing a note. About hour into the show drummer Sean Kinney got fed up, trashed his kit and walked off. The rest of the band followed until Jerry Cantrell emerged did an acoustic version of Rooster and show over. A.I.C = Cool Layne Staley = Drug whore suck |

Re: Most underrated frontman
[ QUOTE ]
Mark Lanegan of The Screaming Trees. Possibly the best rock singer of the 90s [/ QUOTE ] I think we have a winner. The fact that he has only been mentioned by one person further proves his under-rated qualties. The Screaming Trees/Mark Lanegan are widley forgotten from the Grunge era but should be mentioned in the same breath as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc. His solo stuff is also very good. The problem with guys like Scott Weilend/Chris Cornell, etc. is 2 fold, they are widley recognized as being great, and they've each put out a couple stinkers to go along with their quality material. Yes, STP Purple & Core are amazing but have you ever listend to Tiny Music? Finally, off-topic Dean & Robert DeLeo of STP are well deserving of being considered for most underated guitar/ bass players. |

[ QUOTE ] Scott Weiland would be under rated if STP didn't suck. My vote goes to Layne Staley. [/ QUOTE ] He's another good one. I won't argue with Staley. I can't believe you'd think STP sucked, though. [/ QUOTE ] When I first saw the title of this thread, Layne was the first name that popped into my head. |

Re: Most underrated frontman
Maynard does rock more than any other frontman... don't know that he's underrated, but felt I had to give the man his due.
As for truly underrated frontmen, I submit Cedric Bixler of At the Drive In and Mars Volta fame. Has a unique style and vision, not the same old rehashed crap so many bands seem to spew out. Just my 2 cents |

Scott Weiland would be under rated if STP didn't suck. My vote goes to Layne Staley. [/ QUOTE ] I teared up a little when I heard Layne died. He is by far my favorite, and very very underrated. |
