I think I just found the worst tournament in history
Its a live game that appears to be 20+30vig for 100 players, with 2000 pound to the winner only, needless to say it seems so bad I definitely should not play. I've never played live before though, and am unlikely to get any other opportunities in the near future. Would anyone play this, even for fun, oh 1k of the 3k vig is going to a childrens hospital, still seems horrible though.

Re: I think I just found the worst tournament in history
I myself hate tournaments that are filled with poor players. 3-4 per table is ideal I think, but when you're the only person that folds A5 at the table, things get a little tricky.
I used to play in a $25 tournament at a bar with rebuys/addons where I saw a woman calling all-in bets on flops with ace high, only to rech back into her purse and dish out some more cash(spent over $100). I played the tournament 3 times. First time I made final table but anytime I got a decent hand there was too much action in front of me to make a play. Second time I won the tournament($800) after not winning a hand for 45 minutes. Heads up I turned a flush and put a guy all-in(medium pot) where I had a slight chip advantage and he called me with a T-high flush draw and no pair. Third time I played it, I had 4 limpers in front of me when I was shortstacked and pushed all in with KK, got 1 call from A4, guy flopped an A and I was out. I don't know whats worse, having to get stupider by listening to these players spit out espn commentary(chip and a chair, etc.) and calling all the females 'Annie Duke'... or having to deal with getting sucked out to J6o calling a big raise PF and losing QQ to a J63 board(I remembered I played 4 times). Anyways, I advise to stay away unless you want the live game practice. Note: I just realized you weren't talking about the players so this rant is somewhat worthless; however, those fundraiser tournaments are pretty poor from what I've heard so maybe this does apply. Thanks for hopefully tolerating the rant. |

Where do you find tournaments like this? I have only played in online and casino ones. These sound juicy.

I would still play if you want experience, I mean lots of money goes to the childrens hospital which is a good thing

They no longer run the tournaments but were running for a solid year once a month and for 6 months once a week. The game is no longer running as it was shutdown even though the bar took $0 out of the tournament but profited heavily on drink sales. Another note, the one time I won the tournament was the one time I was sober... coincidence? |

Re: I think I just found the worst tournament in history
Would they allow deals at the final table?
Realize the vig has to be higher live since they have a lot more expensive costs than online (dealers, space, etc.) |

This is this places first tournament though and i'm told there could be more, with lower charges if this is successful (apparently they have bought chips and stuff). I'm very tempted to support them despite all my reservations, a regular local live tournament with a lot of soft players even with a 20% vig would be a very good thing for me. Thanks for taking the time. Regards Mack |

The players are awful but you probably won't get enough starting chips to really take advantage. The game will probably be player dealt so between misdeals, waiting for someone to shuffle and arguing over whether a kicker plays you might get 10 hands in an hour if you're lucky. I can't imagine that anyone could have a big enough edge to make up for the excessively high fee. |

When I first played and it was once a month, there were dealers and they were only paid a % of the rebuys/add-ons. This was when the tournament was worth my time. Eventually they made the tournament weekly and this is when I stopped playing, as like you said misdeals, shuffling, and all the issues that come with playerdealing were too much to handle. |
