haha well he doesn't need to finish... he just needs to get it ready to be finished... by someone whos really good.

a big problem last year (and 2004) was the pure overwork of the bullpen. you have no idea how painful watching yankee-detroit or yankee-seattle games where we would have to use 3 relievers and then gordon to close out a game where we had a 3 run lead. there was one game against toronto where the yankees were up 11-3 and ended up having to use mariano. I kid you not.

so i am happy this went down even if i dont expect him to be a low 2 era reliever.

I don't think the problem, if there was one, was having to use the bullpen too much; the problem was there were only two guys out there who could get people out.

Bottom line was Flash wanted three years and an opportunity to become a closer and the Yankees weren't going to give him either. Given what was available on the market, Fransworth was a good deal for the Yankees.

I doubt they would consider it, but I think Wang would be a good man for the 7th and 8th innings. They'll most likely need him in the rotation though.

I think it was a combination of both. First off, our starters did not perform very well and did not last very long. That was definitely the case and when your bullpen is not very good overall, making them pitch a high volume of innings is obviously trouble. There is only so much pitching two people can do, its simple math that either the weak people will have to pitch (proctor) or the good people will be overstressed. And of course you're 100% right about only having 2 good pitchers to count on from the bullpen.

I don't think Wang will or should be moved to the pen. He is too good and too young for that.

As for Gordon's contract, the yankees would have had to overpay for too long to keep him. He's old.

kinda funny how the cubs traded him away for next to nothing and now he is going to get a sweet deal. any cubs fan can tell you this is a bad move by the yankees, or whoever ends up with him. he's bad news. ny post and daily news will have field days with this antics thou, should be amusing.
