Default theory question from a weak tight player

If I raise AKo MP preflop and get 2 callers in LP. The flop comes As 7c 2s or another relatively safe flop. Is it a huge mistake to check/call to control pot size then bet 2/3 on the turn if the flop was bet, otherwise if it's checked, potting it on the turn?

Thanks in advance,
Digital

This is an impossible question to answer without more information, such as stack sizes, and the type of opposition you have. If the stacks are deep, and you have an aggressive player who is likely to bet, you could plan to check/call him all the way down. If you're planning to lead out on the turn, it seems to me a check-raise would be better then a check-call on the flop, as check-calling him lets him see a card for "free", plus betting the turn isn't consistent with your strategy of keeping the pot small. It seems to me the line you are suggesting is kind of changing horses in mid-stream, given your original plan to keep the pot small.

Anyway I was trying to think of a situation where your play would be reasonable, but in general leading out on the flop is a better play. Keeping the pot small shouldn't be as big a concern as getting your TPTK hand paid off. If you get raised, then you need to know the tendencies of your opponent.

I like this line on a safe flop. But expect to see a lot of checking behind on the flop from passive players.
