Default Stumbling Through Purgatory

I hate this hand. . .

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 max, 7 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is Button with 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls, 3 folds, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, BB calls, UTG calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (12 SB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls.

Turn: (8 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)

Any reads?

Pre-flop: good.

Flop: good.

Turn... I'd probably call down at this point without a read. He might just be bluffing. Of course, a 3-bet doesn't look too horrible here, either...

I don't know. I'm curious what others might say.

Poker is such a situational game, depending on the opponent, an easy fold can turn into an easy 3 bet. There is no stardard line in any situation becuz so many different varaibles govern every hand.

However when you have no read on your opponent, there is a standard line to guide you for many situations in Poker. When you have a pocket pair, and a higher card is on the board, and an unknown checkraises you on the turn, you should fold. With no information, folding is the prudent move.

Preflop fine, Flop fine. Seems like SB probably has AK and missed.

We need reads. Absent reads, I fold to check/raise. Unlike BB is a complete donkey, he is not pulling this check/raise given the preflop ram and jam action.

You could be ahead if hes being fancy and c/r a flush draw but 1) this is not 6 max where ppl tend to pull that kind of stunt more often, 2) you have no reads.

I have a question about the preflop raise. I can understand, given Hero's position, raising if there were no callers. However, there is a caller UTG.

What if there was another caller between UTG and Hero? Is a preflop raise still considered OK?

If you really think about it, wtf is this guy limping with UTG? What hands do you limp UTG. I'd say 77 is good enough to raise someone who is limping UTG

I think preflop is a raise or fold type deal. You choose raise. With that in mind..

I like the flop bet.

Turn is tough w/o a read on bb. would he raise a fd oop or did he spike a queen?

I wouldnt lose sleep over folding this one, unless bb is a nut or something.

I definitely like the first two streets.

The turn is just a classic tough "poker-playing" decision.

Most players aren't just check-raising a hand like QJ or something like that. This is much more likely to be a monster (a set), or a bluff/semi-bluff (a 3). At a higher limit, I'd probably opt for a calldown as the turn play is more likely to be smoke and players are less likely to have hands that make, say, two pair.

Here it's damn marginal either way. Getting 6-1 on a calldown, you need to be ahead here like 15%. You'll be drawn out on a fair amount of the time you are ahead now, so you should probably say you need to be ahead like 20% of the time in order to make a calldown here good, in my opinion.

It's close either way. I guess I like a calldown when push comes to shove, though.
