Re: 50/100 mp openlimp
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] i wish i understood high limit poker [/ QUOTE ] This is not a remotely standard open limp in high limit poker, nor a reasonable one. [/ QUOTE ] I concur. It is extremely rare that I limp-reraise at all in limit games, but when I do I have something much stronger than AQo in middle position. Do you limp-reraise frequently in this game? Why do you think this is better than open-raising in this case? |

Re: 50/100 mp openlimp
Some random thoughts on this hand:
Preflop: I will limp reraise with a number of hands when the game is tight. AQo is not normally one of them, but you got to try everything once. Flop: I know the check is risky with 2 players, but sometimes it just seems right to do something different. Besides I really only worry about a 9 or an A. Turn: I was kind of hoping one of them would bet since they would have a very hard time calling a raise. With the action so far and my image at the table I'm representing a monster here and a raise will fold a number of better hands. After they both checked I decided it was over with free cards and I still might fold better hands with a bet (sb is capable of laying down AK, AQ and small pairs here). River: oh, well... |

I'm a lowly 3/6 grinder and of obvious intellectual limitations because this makes zero sense to me.

I don't think it makes much sense to anyone.

Re: 50/100 mp openlimp
[ QUOTE ]
I am curios to why you would ever limp AQo first in i MP in a tight game? Are you trying to encourage people to limp along with dominated hands or whats the reasoning? [/ QUOTE ] It is not really wise to limp with weak hands in these games as you are sure to get raised and often be HU with a better hand. You do however have to vary your game and by limp reraising more you get: 1) to win more than the blinds with your big hands (AA, KK etc.) 2) provide cover so you can actually limp with some of the semigood hands (QJs etc.). This will not work if you only limp reraise the top 2-3 hands, so you have to mix it up and limp reraise with other hands as well. |

I like the betting pattern, although it's pretty aggressive to do it with AQo. Would you have 3bet preflop if the big blind had folded? [/ QUOTE ] Yes! Particularly with an sb that likes big laydowns. |

I don't think it makes much sense to anyone. [/ QUOTE ] I speculate that I might have found a line that could gain me an extra BB when I'm ahead and win the pot for me some of the times when I'm behind. |

Re: 50/100 mp openlimp
I like Clarkmeister's term here, metagame considerations, in addition to what the original poster mentioned in other replies. FWIW I don't see this play as being bad but heh.
