It's no mystery. When they were new the manufacturer could charge more since they were "state of the art". As time passes they become more well known but also the consumer becomes willing to wait for a better price. So the Mfg drops the price in response to market forces. Where will they be a year from now $300? or ??

This cycle is constantly repeated in business..twas ever thus.
